The FCUCC Justice Team is hosting a 24-Hour Prayer Vigil to highlight those on the margins who are particularly affected by recent changes in our government and legal system. Our goal is to stand where Jesus would stand—on the side of the suffering. Our concern is to honor the call to love as Jesus loves by feeding, sheltering, clothing, visiting, and healing those who need it. Our call is to spend 24 hours in prayer so that we can invite God to enter our hearts as well as to bring our laments to God. Our hope is that we can call out injustice in our world without condemning our neighbors.
At 7:00 pm on October 4 we will have an outdoor screening of Bad Faith, which is free and open to the public. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit comfortably! In the event of rainy weather, we’ll move inside.
Each hour of our 24-hour vigil we will focus on a different neighbor-in-need: migrants and targeted people of color, trans and LGBTQ+ people, women who need reproductive healthcare, poor people who need social welfare, those affected by gun violence, and those subjected to war and genocide. Each person who signs up to pray for an hour will come to the church at least five minutes before the assigned time. The hour begins when the volunteer recites a prayer outdoors among those gathered. The public prayers are written by our pastors and will be provided to you. After reciting the public prayer, volunteers will spend the rest of the hour in quiet prayer of their choosing in our Chapel in the Garden.
